Stages of Formation
Pre-Novitiate: A young person who feels called to religious life will first go through a period of discernment guided by the vocational diretor. This is followed by pre-novitiate when he will start living in the community so that he may experience religious life and decide whether it is truly his call in life. In particular, the pre-novitiate or postulancy is a time of self-discovery - a deeper exploration of ones human and psychological dimensions.
Novitiate: This is a year of profound spiritual journeying as well as learning more about the Society and our lifestyle. This stage ends with the profession of temporary vows.
Juniorate: Normally the newly-professed member then has six years of living with temporary vows. This is a time for study and training. During this time the Junior Paulist also gets the opportunity for a two-year pastoral and missionary experience outside his country. This phase ends with the profession of final vows and is followed by ordination for those going on to priesthood.

International Formation |
Our formation community is international. Members from our missions in various countries come together in Philippines for the formation program. Some start from the pre-novitiate phase of the program while others join at a later stage.
Pre-novices follow the "Sojourn" program while novices attend attend "Exodus". Both are inter-congregational and international. Most philosophy and theology courses are also designed for students from a wide variety of countries since many religious congregations send their students to study in the Philippines.
Living in international communities is a challenge. It is also a sign and witness of Christian unity. For us missionaries it is especially important since our goal is to live in other cultures and to share our faith wherever God sends us.
